Book three of the 51 Series.
John Lingerfelt was working in his lab located in the basement of is house. Since he had met Sheriff Lindsay Gold, he had more and more questions about her. Every time they had met he had managed to collect something of hers without her noticing, so he could continue to study her, hoping to find answers to some of his questions.
He had come to know many people during his long life, but had never met anyone quite like the sheriff. From the time of their first meeting he had seen that something was different about her. As he had come to know her better and be around her more he realized she was quite remarkable in several ways.
The first thing he noticed about Lindsay was that she thought in a way most people didn’t. Most people think either logically or creatively, but she thought in both ways on everything she did. She also thought and reacted very quickly. He was sure that part of it was her training, but he was just as sure that part was not.
He began looking through the results from the tests he had just finished running. To his frustration they showed the same thing as all of the others, nothing. There was still no explanation as to why all of the things that were now loose in the county, were responding to her the way they were.
John leaned back in his chair. He wanted to tell Wren what he was doing but he didn’t want to alarm him. Lindsay’s husband was already worried about everything that was happening and how it seemed to be attracted to her. If he did tell Wren, he didn’t know how he would even begin the conversation. What would he say? Wren, my boy, I want you to know that I have been studying your wife like she is one of the creatures I have studied in the past. That would never work.
John stood up and stretched. He walked to the door of his lab and turned off the light. He closed the door and began walking up the stairs. He had done everything he could with what he had. Now he had to figure out the next step in finding out about Sheriff Lindsay Gold.
